Letter Regarding Early Dismissal on May 2, 2022

May 2, 2022

Gananda Families and Staff,

I wanted to thank you for your patience and quick actions today in the dismissal of our students. We apologize for the short notice, however, we were working under a very limited capacity to communicate. Today‚Äôs decision for an early dismissal was made due to a safety concern for our students and staff.

The power outage was affecting our phone lines, our internet connections, our security systems including fire alarms, and even our ability to use our walkie-talkies to communicate between buildings. With the anticipated time of 3pm for our systems to come back online, we made the decision to dismiss early with the best interest of the safety for our students and staff.

As with any event, such as the one today, we review our protocols to continue to make improvements. One of the main issues that we will be addressing is that our back-up generators failed to respond. We will be investigating this to prevent a future failure.

Again, thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Sincerely,

Shawn Van Scoy, Ed.D.

Superintendent, Gananda Schools
