Update: COVID-19 Changes from Superintendent Dr. Van Scoy

May 9, 2022

Gananda Families and Staff,

As of April 29, 2022, New York State discontinued their COVID-19 contact tracing and case investigation program. Without these resources, Wayne County Public Health also changed their process for follow up with COVID-19 cases. Positive cases will not be receiving a call from New York State or Wayne County Public Health. Additionally, if you have a positive at-home test result, you no longer need to upload the result to the county website. We will continue to work with Wayne County Public Health to investigate and monitor any clusters and outbreaks in our schools.

At this time, we will also be ending Gananda’s Daily Covid-19 Calendar on our website. The information that we receive is not in a timely manner and at times is actually past the date of resolution.  In the event that there is an actual cluster in our schools, we will be sending out information to families that are impacted. You can also view our COVID-19 School Report Card from NY State Department of Health online.

As a reminder, if your child is sick (runny nose, fatigue, headache, sore throat, fever) please do not send them to school. Contact your child’s school nurse. If you have a negative or positive COVID-19 at home test, please send a picture of the test result along with your child's name and date of the test to the school nurse via ParentSquare.

We will continue to adhere to the following guidelines throughout the remainder of this school year:

  1. Isolation and Quarantine periods are 5 days from the onset of symptoms of the positive test result (whichever comes first).
  2. Masking is required to be worn for days 6-10 after the 5-day isolation period ends.  Students or staff may return to school after isolating for 5 days as long as symptoms are improving and you are fever free for at least 24 hours. Masks must be worn in school on days 6-10 in order to return to school in person.

Please contact the health office of your child's school or our District COVID-19 Mitigation Specialist, Kim Ernstberger at KErnstberger@gananda.org with any questions or concerns.
