To be eligible to run for the Board of Education citizens must have been a resident of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of 12 months, be able to read and write and be 18 years of age. Nominating petitions must be signed by at least 25 qualified district voters or 2% of the number of voters who voted in the previous annual election of members of the board of education, whichever is greater (§2018(a)). In our district, 25 signatures are required.
School Board members are elected with “at-large” seats meaning if there are vacant positions of different lengths, positions are filled in decreasing order of the number of votes and length of office. Thus the candidate with the highest number of votes is entitled to the position of the longest length. The following vacancies are to be filled in the upcoming election:
- 1 Three year term currently held by Mr. William Buchko
- 1 Three year term currently held by Mrs. Shauna Phillips
In order for your name to appear on the ballot, nomination petitions must be received in the office of the District Clerk located in the Gananda Middle School, 1500 Dayspring Ridge, Walworth by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023.
