Gananda Central School District Appoints New High School Principal

May 12, 2023

Dear Gananda Families,

We are excited to welcome Dr. Chris Whipple (he/him/his) to Gananda Central School District as the newly appointed Ruben A. Cirillo High School Principal. Dr. Whipple joins the district after serving as assistant principal in the  East Irondequoit Central School District for eight years.  During his time as assistant principal he gained valuable experience in implementing a framework for equity and excellence, planning activities to promote a culture of care, and working with school counselors to address the needs of students and engage with families. Prior to his administrative role at East Irondequoit, Dr. Whipple was a Social Studies 7 and AP Psychology teacher in the Bloomfield Central School District where he worked extensively with both teaching staff and students to create engaging curriculum and instruction. He also received the Distinguished Digital Educator Award from East Irondequoit CSD in 2017 for his support in implementing the 1:1 digital conversion at the high school level for both students and staff.

The Board of Education officially appointed Dr. Whipple during the Board meeting on May 3. He was selected out of a total of 28 applicants for the position. Dr. Whipple is the second employee to experience our new blind selection process which consists of parents, staff, and administrators reviewing materials and responses with no identifiable information, with the goal of  eliminating any bias.  In the final stage, two candidates were selected to tour the buildings and sit for interviews with six committees composed of parents, staff, students, administrators and board members.  I am confident that we have found a patient, compassionate, and open-minded leader focused on working with students, families, and staff to continue building the culture at our high school.

Please join me in welcoming him to the district on July 1, 2023.

Sincerely,

Shawn Van Scoy, Ed.D.

Superintendent, Gananda Central Schools
