Congratulations to the four Gananda Middle School students who qualified for the regional Civics Bee finals and to Joey P., who finished in third place at the March 11 event in Rochester.
Eliana M-M., Addison E. and Samantha J. joined Joey at the regional finals after they wrote 500-word essays, which were reviewed by government officials, business leaders and educators. This portion of the Bee was open to middle school students across the nine-county Finger Lakes region.
The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce sponsored the event, which named Brody S. of Victor as the winner. The Victor student advances to the state qualifier with a chance to move on to the national competition.
Joey, Addison and Samantha attended the March 11 finals and Middle School Principal Elliott Butt said the trio represented Gananda with class and pride. Eliana was not able to attend.
“They were a little nervous but they represented our school incredibly well,” he said. “We’re very proud of these students for standing in front of a panel of area professionals to go through a mini-dissertation. They were impressive!”
